Rwanda Development Board Announces a New 3 Year Sponsorship Deal with a European Football Giant- Paris Saint Germain
In its continued bid to make Rwanda one of Africa’s leading tourist destinations especially for high end or luxury tourists, Rwanda Development Board (RDB) has had to part with hefty investments in order to realize its dream coming true.
Apart from near-perfect social infrastructures such as roads that are spotless and without any inconceivable potholes, Rwanda has had to engage in aggressive and expensive marketing strategies in order to lure in their intended tourists to visit this country of 1000 rolling hills.
One of these marketing strategies include having endorsement deals with internationally recognized brands. Rwanda Development Board (RDB) has chosen to partner with internationally recognized footballing clubs in Europe as their favourite brands in order to market destination Rwanda to their global fan base which is counted in tens of millions of people who support these teams globally. This campaign kicked off last with RBD partnering with one of England’s biggest soccer club Arsenal where they penned a 3-year deal is believed to be around 39 million dollars.
This deal saw the London based club jersey rebranded with a Visit Rwanda campaign logo on their shirt sleeves as well as other Rwanda branding campaign material and messages put around and inside the club’s stadium. This deal was received with mixed reactions both at home and abroad with critics saying the government was shelling out so much money in international branding yet the country is still considered a 3rd world state with a GDP per capita of about 700$ only.
However, only after a year elapsing on this deal, the RDB is saying that the deal was a worthwhile adventure as the country realized an increase of 05% in tourists visiting Rwanda from UK which is a direct result from this deal and overall results show that in 2018 alone Rwanda earned 380 million dollars from tourism while the Rwanda central bank projects that by the end of this financial year, the country will earn 405 million dollars and 800$ million by 2024 hence making more meaning ful for the country to appreciate this effort.
With all these glaring results, the RDB has gained confidence about its strategy and now has penned down yet another lucrative deal with another footballing giant club in France Pairs Saint Germain. This deal that’s believed to be lingering around 8-11 million dollars according to Reuters will the PSG Women Team jersey branded with a visit Rwanda campaign logo. This deal will also see Rwanda getting branded in the club’s main stadium for 3 years.
After signing the agreement, Ms Clare Akamanzi, the RDB chief executive officer said: “We invest part of our tourism revenues in strategic collaborations such as the one with Paris St Germain because we understand the positive effect they have on the overall perception of the country globally.”
What does Rwanda have to offer?
If you think of making a Rwanda safari tour, then surely one thing comes to your mind and that’s a memorable encounter with the magical gorillas since Rwanda is home to these majestic fellows that are found in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park.
Volcanoes national park is part of the larger Virunga massif which stretches to cover 3 countries of Rwanda, Congo and Uganda and this place is home to close 600 endangered mountain gorillas. The Rwandan government has undertaken many conservation initiatives that are aimed at ensuring that these gorillas have a natural habitat and are also protected from poachers. These initiatives are also directed towards improving the livelihood of local communities that live adjacent to these national conservation areas.
If you are to visit Rwanda for a Rwanda gorilla safari, you have an opportunity to meet any of the over 10 gorilla families that have been habituated to give you an amazing Rwanda gorilla trekking safari experience. Some of the amazing gorilla families you are likely to meet include Susa, Karisimbi, Sabinyo, Amahoro, Agasha, Umbabano, Kwitonda, Ugenda, Bwenda, Titus and Hirwa. However, as of today, the Hirwa gorilla family is currently habituating in Uganda’s Mgahinga gorilla national park since both Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Volcanoes National park, as well as Virunga National Park, share common boundaries and the gorillas freely roam from one park to another.
What makes Rwanda a gorilla destination of choice to many Africa safari travellers is the fact that the gorilla trekking sites are quite close to the capital city of Rwanda Kigali only lying 120km or 3-hour drive away from Kigali and this makes it possible for many Africa safari tours adventurers to engage in short Rwanda gorilla safaris such as 1 day Rwanda gorilla tour, 2 days Rwanda gorilla tour which cannot be possible in Uganda or Congo since the gorilla trekking sites a far away from the major airports of these countries as well as their capital cities.
Since these gorillas are existing in three countries you can definitely enjoy an Africa gorilla trekking safari experience in the other 2 countries of Uganda and Congo. Uganda gorilla tours are conducted in the southwestern parks of Mgahinga gorilla national park and also Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Even when Uganda’s permit cost increases to 700USD by July next year, it will still be 800USD cheaper hence still making an affordable venture to many gorilla safaris ethusiasts who would otherwise not be able to afford the rather expensive gorilla trekking Rwanda safari experience at the cost of 1500USD.
Congo gorilla tours on other hand is carried out in both Virunga National Park and also Kahuzi Biega National Park. Unlike Africa gorilla tours in Uganda and Rwanda, gorilla tours Congo give you a unique chance to encounter 2 different species of gorillas and these are the eastern lowland gorillas that are found in Kahuzi Biega National Park and also the mountain gorillas (Gorilla berengei berengei) that are found in the virunga national park.
